THE EVENT
A unique experience to swim from Sicily to Calabria (Italy). For over 10 years, every summer, Swimming Travel has been organizing this crossing, and is proud to offer you the opportunity to swim the incredibly blue and deep waters of the Messina Strait, where the myths of Scilla and Carriddi still live today. The Strait of Messina Crossing is a must-attend event for open water swimming enthusiasts, as well as for less experienced swimmers. In full compliance with local and international regulations issued by maritime authorities, and under complete safety conditions, you will enjoy an unforgettable experience in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The package includes participation in the crossing only.
Due to the possibility of postponement caused by adverse weather and sea conditions, participants are advised to plan their travel allowing for a potential delay of up to two days.
Event Confirmation
Participation in the crossing will be confirmed upon reaching the minimum number of 15 participants. The organization will provide official confirmation at least three months before the scheduled date.
THE PROGRAM
DAY 1 PM pm: technical meeting on the beach, analysis of weather and sea forecast, course explanation and gadget distribution to each athlete. Optional dinner in a local restaurant for those interested in dining with the group, sharing experiences with each other and tasting the local Sicilian cuisine.
DAYS 2 AM: Meeting at the meeting point (clarified the day before), transfer with boats to the start point at the Pilone Torre Faro beach. Once the Messina Strait crossing is completed, the athletes will be brought back to Sicily by boat to the start point. Congratulations, pictures, certificate by the Italian Timekeepers Federation and more.
DAY 3 AM: Advidsed open day - your presence is required - to potentially do the crossing in case of bad weather on the scheduled day (DAY 2).
DAY 4 AM: Advidsed open day - your presence is required - to potentially do the crossing in case of bad weather on the scheduled day 2 or day 3.
We highly recommend for all participants to stay two days extra. Due to the weather conditions the crossing may be postponed and we don’t want you to miss this opportunity.
THE OFFER
The package includes
- Assistance boat for the strait swim crossing. One boat is assigned to three athletes.
- On each boat there will be a certified lifeguard and a captain.
- Medical assistance.
- Ambulance, one on each side of the crossing; Sicily and Calabria.
- FIN (Italian Swim Federation) supervision during the entire crossing.
- Official Italian Timing federation will be officially monitoring each athlete’s swim times.
- Official listing of your name in the Albo d'Oro of the Messina Strait crossing.
- Swimming Travel Messina Swim Crossing t-shirt and swim cap.
- Professional photographers.
- Facebook live streaming.
- Personalized medal for all partecipants.

Reimbursement Policy
- Before the 12th week: 70% of the total cost.
- From the 12th to the 6th week: 50% of the total cost.
- No reimbursment policies will apply after the 6th week.
Reimbursement policy specific for the crossing
You will be partially reimbursed if: the weather forecast is not allowing the swim crossing to start and there is no other date available to reschedule the event. This decision will officially be taken by the maritime local authorities. Unfortunately we are not able to reimburse you the insurance fees for the medical assistance, lifeguard and timing officials.
Swimming Travel does NOT take any responsibility in the circumstances where the event has to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions or cancellation of the even for any other reason where our organization cannot be held accountable for. The maritime authorities together with Swimming Travel will do their best to provide another date for the crossing. We therefore encourage all participates to plan a flexible travel schedule, keeping in mind the possibility of one or two days of deferral of the event date.
You will NOT be reimbursed if: you cancel, you cancel a postponement, you are late, you fail to send us all required documents and we cannot let you participate at the event.
We are NOT able to reimburse you if: the swim crossing starts and has to be stopped after the start due to the weather changing for the worse This decision will also officially be taken by the maritime local authorities and not by Swimming Travel.

REGISTRATION METHODS
Single payment via online platforms (PayPal/Stripe) or bank transfer as indicated in the registration form.
A €270,00 for the June crossings.
B €290,00 for the July crossings.
C €280,00 for the August and September crossings.
THE GOLD PROGRAM
Swim crossing + Accommodation + Swim camp
DAY 1 PM: 5pm technical meeting on the beach, analysis of weather and sea forecast, course explanation and gadget distribution to each athlete. Optional dinner at the restaurant for those interested in dining with the group, sharing experiences with each other and tasting the local Sicilian cuisine.
DAY 2 AM: Meeting at the meeting point (the meeting point will be communicated the day before), transfer with boats to the start point at the Pilone Torre Faro beach. Once the Messina Strait crossing is completed, the athletes will be brought back to Sicily by boat to the start point. Congratulations, pictures, certificate by the Italian Timekeepers Federation and more.
DAY 3 AM: meeting at 9:30am, group swim in the beautiful Sicilia blue sea, technical focus on open water swimming, swim analysis of video tapes (taken during group swim). PM: guided tour of Taormina city and its archeological site.
DAY 4 AM: Open water group swim and departure.
The order and timing of the schedule could be modified due to weather conditions or preferences.

Cancellation policy
Travel reimbursements
- Before the 12th week: 70% of the frist cost.
- From the 12th to the 8th week: 25% of the frist cost.
- From the 8th to the 6th week: 50% of the total cost for swimmers and 30% for support crew/family.
- From the 6th to the 3rd week: 20% for swimmers and support crew/family.
- No reimbursment policies will apply after the 3rd week.

Two-step payment by bank transfer divided as follows:
01 First deposit of €300 per person at reservation.
02 Final deposit within the 8th week before your event: JUNE: final deposit within March. JULY: final deposit within May. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER: final deposit within June.
N.B. The GOLD package will be activated with a minimum of 8 people. If there are not 8 members, the fee will be refunded by deducting the cost of the crossing (BASIC price).
